Perfect Simple Salmon {Technique Tuesday}

Happy happy Technique Tuesday!!

For this week, I wanted to bring you something super simple because that is what I need and that is what I love, SIMPLE! Perfect Simple Salmon 🙂

I love this PERFECT salmon technique that originated from, who other than, The Pioneer Woman and was reinvented by my dear best friend Kara.  Kara, who I just finished running a marathon with (:)), whipped this delicious salmon up for my husband and I in, well, 25 minutes accompanied by her famous Kale Ceasar. Sad day, I took ZERO pictures last night. No excuses. I digress…

It was moist, delicious and super flavorful.  It 100% helped that it was FRESH caught from Alaska weeks earlier by her father. No joke, all weekend I was trying to figure out how to bring it home with me… I know, I know, wouldn’t work!

Perfect Simple Salmon

  • 1 pound fresh salmon (you can use more or less depending on the amount you have)
  • 1 lemon
  • Fresh Dill
  • Garlic Powder (to taste)
  • S&P (to taste)
  • Drizzle of Olive Oil or Cooking Spray.


Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Place salmon (skin side down) on parchment paper. Squeeze juice of one-ish lemon over salmon, sprinkle with garlic powder and chives.  Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Place the salmon in a cold oven, (yes, cold oven) and turn on the oven to 400 degrees.  Set the timer for 25 minutes and pull out a perfect, flaky and flavorful salmon filet.

It’s true, I tasted it last night AND the Pioneer Woman said it works… so it works. End of story 🙂

Can do any cool variations you’d like.  One of Kara’s other favorites is (Tablespoon of each): olive oil + sriracha + soy, sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  1. You know I love this one. I often have a hard time following the KISS method (KEEP. IT. SIMPLE. STUPID.) but this method is truly good and it is and FAIL PROOF. Of course the better the quality of the salmon, the better final product!!!!

    Another variation:
    1-2 tbsp. olive oil, 1-2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar, 1 clove minced garlic whisked and drizzled on top of salmon. (I rub it into the skin with my hands just to make sure I didn’t miss a spot!)

    Sprinkle with dried herbs of choice (I like basil)
    Salt and Pepper generously

    If you are feeling particularly FRISKY add some freshly grated PARMESAN over the top before popping into your cold oven!
